One Canal

Brand identity and advertising that positioned a downtown apartment tower through amenity-driven urban attitude.

About this project

Located in the center of Downtown Boston, One Canal entered a saturated luxury rental market where many new developments relied on interchangeable branding and predictable lifestyle photography. Developed by Aimco in partnership with Trinity Financial, the property offered 279 residences anchored by a rooftop pool overlooking the Boston skyline. The challenge was to convert that singular asset into a defining brand position and to give the building a voice that felt unmistakably city-driven.

The concept, Haute Urban, reframed the rooftop as runway. Rather than presenting the pool as a feature, the campaign treated it as stage and backdrop. Skyline views, water reflections, and rooftop energy became visual signatures that expressed pace and confidence.

The identity system leaned into fashion language. Bold typography, high-contrast black-and-white photography, and saturated color accents created graphic tension and immediacy. The aesthetic feels editorial rather than residential, aligning the property with style culture rather than conventional apartment marketing.

Messaging was direct and attitude-driven. One Canal was positioned as a residence for renters who see the city as performance and participation, not backdrop. The tone emphasizes movement, skyline, and atmosphere over square footage.

The Haute Urban campaign launched across outdoor boards, transit placements, and street-level signage throughout Downtown Boston. Large-scale applications amplified the rooftop pool and skyline, ensuring instant recognition within the urban landscape.

The Haute Urban campaign launched across outdoor advertising, transit placements, and street-level signage throughout Downtown Boston, using the rooftop pool and skyline as visual signatures. The brand’s clarity and point of view established One Canal as a destination for renters seeking an elevated urban lifestyle defined by design, amenities, and city energy.

The impact was immediate. One Canal became the fastest lease-up in Aimco’s history, reaching full occupancy through a brand that combined strong visual attitude with a compelling sense of place, demonstrating how a focused, design-led identity can differentiate a residential project in a crowded downtown market.
